Di Qing

Di Qing (b. 1986, China) works within the tradition of gongbi painting, reinterpreting its classical conventions through a distinctly contemporary artistic sensibility. Employing black ink and traditional Asian pigments on silk, she navigates the intersection of historical allegory and modern experience, integrating everyday motifs and restrained symbolism into compositions of quiet precision.

Her figurative work is centred on serene, impassive figures set against carefully rendered details — falcons, bamboo, and still-life elements — that function as both formal anchors and layered symbolic references. Beneath the apparent stillness of her compositions, themes of solitude, humor, and psychological restraint emerge, establishing an interior space that resonates with deep cultural archetypes.

Having lived and worked across Beijing, Taipei, and Japan, and travelled extensively throughout Europe and North America, Di Qing brings a cosmopolitan perspective to her engagement with classical Chinese pictorial tradition, enriching its formal language with cross-cultural lived experience.

Her work has been exhibited at Line Gallery, Migrant Bird Space, and the MIND Art Museum. She has participated in major international art fairs including ART FAIR TOKYO, VOLTA Basel, Art 021 Shanghai, Art Central Hong Kong, Art Taipei, and Art Beijing.
